I hear the meter's still ticking so pretty soon I'll get off 'Cause I spent my last dollar. Expensive way to get lost. But it's all gonna be worth it. I think she's there, on the second floor. I'm going back to the past when I knock on Marie's door. Lips of fire engine red. Those shoulder length brunette curls. And ooh, those eyes of blue. Buddy, she is the perfect girl. I don't care how much time has gone. Just one man that she could adore. And it'll be just like it was when I knock on Marie's door. She was gritty and so pretty, and that's all I could have wanted. Worst mistake when I gave it up. It doesn't matter what's come after. I'll be searching undaunted. I'll get her back and we'll start it up. This must be the place. Angel, please give me your answer. Dammit! I thought that she lived here. When will her heart I capture? Maybe she lives on up the hill, ten minutes or maybe more. I can't wait 'til the date when I knock on Marie's door. It'll be just like it was when I knock on Marie's door. I'm going back to the past when I knock on Marie's door.

Have you ever seen the sunrise after a night that's spent awake? Have you ever blocked the daylight when it's there for you to take? Have you ever sat in silence as the day starts creeping through? Have you ever missed me the way I'm missing you? Have you ever seen the storm come and the sky turn black and green? Have you ever watched the clouds burst and wash the pavement clean? Have you ever raised a window on a rainy afternoon? Have you ever missed me the way I'm missing you? The evening starts to hasten. The sun moves to the west. When it was you that I was chasing I always gave my best. Have you ever pulled the covers overtop your eyes? Have you ever felt the uselessness of trying not to realize? Have you ever counted teardrops by a three a.m. full moon? Have you ever missed me the way I'm missing you? Have you ever missed me the way I'm missing you? Missing you. Missing you.

And the sky turns green & black, And the rain comes wailing down. An augury from the sky. But you walk along in peace Bathing in the water 'Til the clouds go rolling by. You can't hide the things you've done Or throw your memories away. All the holy water in the world Won't wash your sins away. And the truth will all fall down Like a toppling domino At the end of a chain. Where will you turn for support Amidst the acrimony Of the way that you've behaved? You can't hide the things you've done Or throw your memories away. All the holy water in the world Won't wash your sins away. In the solitude you stand In the timber by the river, Drowning in the storm. Yet there is no communion, No final savior's blessing Since you have no sorry or remorse. You can't hide the things you've done Or throw your memories away. All the holy water in the world Won't wash your sins away. No. Wash your sins away.

Dollar Bill 04:55
Can't get there for standing still unless you're holding that dollar bill. When it ain't with you, you don't have a prayer. I sure miss it when it ain't there. Damn hard to handle, falling in so deep. Don't get one soon, where am I gonna sleep? Knocking on your door, baby, let me in. When your wallets' gone then so are your friends. Can't get by crawling on mother Earth. Feel like nothing, and that's what you're worth. Beg, steal, barter and you lose your pride. Going under tears you up inside. Can't get there for standing still unless you're holding that dollar bill. Back in the day I found a penny and I tossed it. Now I can't find any and I lost it. Find yourself hungry and the cupboard is bare. That's when you learn this life is unfair. Just like that it's gone in a flash. Buy your way out with a payment in cash. Can't get by crawling on mother Earth. Feel like nothing, and that's what you're worth. Beg, steal, barter and you lose your pride. Going under tears you up inside. Can't get there for standing still unless you're holding that dollar bill. You call you mother. Try to disguise. You stop a stranger. You compromise. You pray to Jesus. You tell him lies. I'm with you, son. Word to the wise... Nobody's business, but they will judge. Chip on your shoulder and you hold a grudge. You can't hide it when you're in despair. Don't forget what got you there. Keep on dreaming. Deal with regret. Wager my dollar and I'd win that bet. Can't get by crawling on mother Earth. Feel like nothing, and that's what you're worth. Beg, steal, barter and you lose your pride. Going under tears you up inside. Can't get there for standing still unless you're holding that dollar bill. Dollar bill. Can't get there for standing still unless you're holding that dollar bill.

Well I fell in love with that magic spell she cast. But since I passed maturity nothing seems to last. So I find myself back out on the same streets where we once walked. Here for our long, lost teenage reunion. One place that she used to live is now a dentist's house. The second place I knew of is nowhere to be found. The phone book showed her last residence but I found it foreclosed. It slows the plans of our teenage reunion. I still feel her presence down at every block. On this one night backstreet we could stop the clock. Even though this trip has failed my dream is still in view. I'd tell her, “One thing time can't change...baby, I love you.” I stare at every woman for those long, black curls Looking for the one who one time was my girl. And if she's only reappear I know we could turn back time And pick up on the old teenage reunion. Maybe the next person, the next house, the next road... I traveled here to find her since I've got nowhere to go. And maybe this next step I take will lead me to her door. And so I walk into teenage reunion. I walk into our new teenage reunion.

Seems like yesterday, walking home I saw Cyn and Bri laying to sunbathe. Wearing bikinis and looking fine. Heard a boombox play, blasting “Power Of Love”, “Cuts Like A Knife”, and “10-9-8”. I was 15 and way too shy. There were daydreams and nightmares. I always played the role of fool. Life has moved me, but no matter where, I always end up back at school. Got heartland rock on my headphones and a pretty girl on my mind. The only thing that's changed since 1985 is time. Too many bills to pay. But two kids that light up my life and keep me living. Son and daughter of a broken man. Never know what to say, thinking about you and the love you may be giving. Giving me back my legs to stand. You used to be somebody's baby. Now I hope that you will be mine. I won't ask, somebody, save me. I'll be faithful, heart and mind. Got heartland rock on my headphones and a pretty woman on my mind. The only thing that's changed since 1985 is time. Seasons change. Life goes on. Age grabs you by the throat. All I have to do is press play and I already know every note. Got heartland rock on my headphones and a pretty woman on my mind. The only thing that's changed since 1985... Got heartland rock on my headphones and you on my mind. The only thing that's changed since 1985 is time. Time. Time. Time.
